An Academic Useful Guide on Databases

Today I have a different kind of eBook. It is an academic Guide on Databases. It is easy and simple to understand majority of the chapters. The academic eBook titled as "The Dummies' Guide to Database Systems: An Assembly of Information. An Easy to Understand Guide Even for Laypeople" is authored by me.

The book title is intentionally ambiguous. Why? Because Database Systems are themselves a collection/assembly of information while the book is an assembly of information from various resources. The title carries a third meaning that it is open to anybody interested in databases, just about any layperson. Why? Because majority of the chapters have been written with that purpose in mind, in an easy to understand manner.

The book starts introducing ideas of backend and front end of database systems and covers why databases are at all useful. It goes on to explain the basics of Entity Relationship model (ERM), the fundamental step in designing databases at the backend. The book explains how to convert ERMs to relational models (table schemas), and introduces relational algebra, a pure and procedural form of language to query databases. It also covers Structured Query Language (SQL), the most widely used user-friendly language used for querying relational databases and retrieving info.

It includes other aspects of database design like integrity constraints (conditions) that can be imposed on relational systems, and also includes functional dependencies among attributes (fields) of a table, and the concept of normalization (Chapter 6). The next chapters mainly cover query processing which is the series of activities involved in extracting data from a database, and also cover why the need to map databases to files may arise and how.

The following chapters give a short explanation of a data dictionary and what info about databases it contains, and include sophisticated indexing techniques for files. Just as words or phrases in a textbook index appear in a sorted order, an index for a file in a database works in a similar way.

The book next covers the concept of transactions which are a sequence of data access operations that transfers the database from one consistent state to another consistent state, and introduces concurrency control which rectifies the problems occurring if two or more transactions using the same data items are executed in parallel.

The final chapter includes advanced databases covering distributed databases, data warehouses, multimedia databases and data mining in brief, as well as introduction to NoSQL (Not Only SQL) environment. There is also a miscellaneous database project at the very end which students and/or the readers can work on through out the whole semester in parallel with theory lectures (or in their spare times for those who are not students).

It is my pleasure to be able to write a book like this which should not only be educational and informative but also an enjoyable and productive read at the same time. I wish you all the very best on your merry reading through the pages of this valuable and enriching book.

"The Villain in Kelly's Life" fiction story

I have authored a fiction story titled, "The Villain in Kelly's Life" on free-ebooks.net which is a safe, secure and popular site.

The author narrates the fiction story as reaching her home country for a vacation. She starts to jot down a list of fun stuff she will be doing during her 25-day vacation.

When she comes to the point, "Visiting Old Friends", she remembers her special friend, Kelly very much and gives her a call. After several attempts, she manages to reach her and tells her that she will be paying her a visit the next day. Kelly agrees happily.

Well, the next day arrives and the author reaches Kelly's place promptly. She looks beautiful and in shape. When the author questions her the secret behind her looking so good, Kelly replies that she has only been taking home-made cooked meals. When the author asks her how she manages to take them to the office every day, Kelly seems taken aback but quickly regains her composure and smiles. Even her smile reveals that she is hiding something.

Kelly and the author enjoy talking to each other about their updates in life but every gesture, smile and laugh from her seem to say that she is in pain and sorrow.

The author thinks to herself if Kelly won't reveal her problem(s). How can she make Kelly talk? Well, the author does succeed finally, and it is a very interesting story from Kelly indeed!! It turns out to be a man problem meaning a man was interested in her at the office; yet he turns out to be a villain and it goes beyond that. In order to learn more, visit the following link:

"Pamela's Family Doctor" Fiction story

I have authored a lovely fiction story titled, "Pamela's Family Doctor" on free-ebooks.net which is a safe, secure and popular site.

The author narrates the girl named Pamela and her family moving to a new home. This is in the heart of the city with easy and convenient access to all kinds of shops and even a pharmacy.

Soon Pamela's brother falls ill and so her Dad fetches the doctor from the pharmacy. He examines her brother and gives some medication which makes her brother recover in a short while almost magically. This doctor is going to become a constant doctor for the family who will always help the family with medical issues for years together.

When Pamela has fever or cough, her family always consults the doctor who heals her completely. Pamela works on a regular job, and she gets gradually stressed with it, falling into a cycle of depression. It is then the family doctor is consulted again, and seeing her condition, the doctor advises to go for counseling sessions with the trio: Pamela, her mom and the doctor himself.

The doctor tries to impart new beliefs and values to Pamela through these sittings. After several sessions, the doctor hints that he will be moving out of town and settle down in the outskirts of the city. In fact, it is the last session Pamela is ever going to have with the doctor.

She cries secretly and grieves a lot. She had found strength in the doctor but she gradually starts to reason out herself that she has always been a great and competent girl, completing her higher studies all by herself abroad and carrying out long, interesting and sophisticated projects at her work. Where is she less? Yes, she can let go of the doctor and yes, it becomes possible for her to affirm it in her mind.

While Pamela moves on with hope and light, she does remain in touch with her doctor for a while by calling him up. In the process, the direction of role playing completely reverses! Now what do I mean by that? How does it happen? And that is not all: Pamela's life is going to get very exciting! What is it all about? In order to know more, visit the following link:
